After being here for awhile you all know that any thread with the word ‘truss’ or ‘trusses’ in it will soon enough have commentary from Boss Hog enlightening us on that subject.
I’m pretty quickly drawn to any that mention ‘CAD’ or ‘Roofing’ or ‘Design’
Maybe You’ve noticed other threads where I’m consistantly known to show up…
Anyway here’s the game. Who do you associate with what words…?
Or What subject matter do yopu expect certain posters to comment on?
Or what word is it that consistantly gets your attention?

Man there are a few in here that go on and on and on about guns, Left wing/right wing/liberal/conservative.....Gunner, bobl,Jay, etc.
Then you have the Tim Mooney that helps us with rentals, thinking out of the box stuff.
Then someone I wish I saw more here is Sonny L. He sets us all straight on how we should REALLY be running a business and making a living.
Luka he is the man that helps us with the computer stuff (that people like me NEED). He also shares in some pretty deep stuff that I have to say really makes me think that he is probably one of the smartest humans on the planet.
Piffin I don't know if that is what you were really looking for, but just thought I would chime in here.

Mostly looking for discussion and you made me think about Tim Mooney - I expect to see him comment on drywall and paints but he really does have a lot on the realestate and financing stuff too.
Luka is certainly one of the deepest and least appreciated people here.

Hmmm...if it's going to be a game, how about just topics? For example, if you're thinking of a poster you want someone to guess, you could just name a topic like geometry, taxes, guns, stairs- I bet most regulars here would have the answer within 2-3 guesses. ;^)
OK
Subject line: Math and geometry

Jeff Buck will show up to assist in threads about vehicles (he is frequently helpful in tile threads also).
Another day, another tool.
As you mentioned, I generally jump on any thread that has the word "truss" in it. I also check out words like "structural", or "beam". Seems like "bounce" or "sag" also get my attention.
I also tend to lock onto the word "boss", although they're obviously not always referring to me.
Any threads with "Shrub" or Bush" in the title I now click on, scroll to the bottom, and put them on ignore.......................(-:

BobWalker - ANYTHING than can be construed as political

Jencar - fairly new, but still entertaining
Boss - trusses, of course, and anything else involving roofing

A little bit of the class clown acting up like rez but with a dash of literary talent or verbal skill maybe reflecting some foreign language fluency in your background.
But I don't know what makes you hit that mouse button.
What got me started on this thread was the enthusiasm I caught myself in when I saw a thread the used the word CAD in it. and at JLC, I always go to Joe Stoddards place first over there.
The word roof kind of draggs me back to it, as much as I hate crawling up on one anymore..

OK. Fair is fair. I come b/c I'm interested. Your take probably isn't too far off the mark. I have this stance on life that once you think you know everything, you're pretty much just wasting everyone elses time.
Here, as in construction in general, there's rarely if ever only one true way. So reading in some regards if a horizon broadening exercise. I've done a little of everything, and enough to know what I don't care for. But some things are just open for argument here. Post something silly about drywall and just wait for Tim Mooney to come and let you know his two cents.
I almost always steer clear of the politics, the hot push buttons, the things that tend to get people emotionally involved. Not my bag, and Bob, I'm not slamming you. When the topic get's political, face it, you're there. That's what I know you for. I think you're there b/c you see so many things as adversarial like someones attacking you personally, and if others think that, it only feeds the fire. But if that bothered you, you wouldn't come back. So knock yourself out.
What I know best? Nothing that I can't get better at. I'm a better trim carp than a framer, better painter than flooring guy, but from time to time, like us all, wear that hat that's required that day or week. What I've done the most of is probably hang doors, but deep down my hearts into finishing. I'd rather be surrounded by lacquer, shellac, and varnish any day. I kinda got the idea here that you were drawing a circle around a "private club". Was I wrong? Are you encouraging us "new guys on the block", or hoping we'll go away?

Do you jump into tile and flooring threads quicker Jeff?
Or Automobile ones?.

I check the tile threads....
try to stay away from floor threads as you can lose yer a$$ on a floor job gone bad!
I sub tile and trim/cabs.....so that'll always get my attention.......
and the other half of my work is residential remodeling...and I work in/on/around lots older(100yrs give or take) homes.......and I look at things "remodeling" in nature.
BTW...if I said that "paraniod" in person...you'd have said.....funny instead of blunt!

I was associating that post with fact that you never have pulled any punches, far as I can tell. No negative connotation..

Neither one Fonzie. I've noticed you as a newbie and enjoy having you here and commenting. Keep it up. Maybe there does seem to be a private club to the newcomer. I guess I felt that way when I started reading here and then I got my feet wet and plunged in! If there's a club, it's not exclusive at all.
I'm sure that you have come to know a couple names here in connection with certain subjects and might want to make a reference to them. Let's say that if you seem to notice that I always act a little overbearing, I might take it as a hint that maybe I should try to slap myself once before responding. Or if you notice that Bob Walker always seems to respond to political stuff or even to turn nonpolitical stuff into such, you might note that, but you wouldn't be the first. He also happens to be a very well rounded individual and a seasoned house inspector with a background in Law. (Personally, I disagreee vehemently with him about political things but I respect his positions if not all his deliveries, and think his building knowledge is a fantastice addition to Breaktime)
But I also guess that more what I was getting at is for you to note to yourself, is there something that turns you on? A passion for some subject in the industry that gets your attention. A specialty that you really want to learn more about. Or a specialty of yours that you feel is where you excell enough to share so that you are drawn to read and comment on those subjects. Everyone loves their own name so you would likely read a thread titled, "Fonzie farts" to see what the joke was, right? ;)
I respond to roofing Qs because i had something like twnety or so years in it as a sub so I know enough about it to be able to answer some roofing Qs intelligently, IMHO
But I respond to CAD and design subjects because that is where my passion lies, currently.
I read business threads because I think that is one of my weak spots. BTW, I think business is wherre most of us fall short...but that's another subject.
I seem to have this rep that I am everywhere, reding and commenting in all the threads. 'Tain't true! Not by a long shot. Doubt that I read more than half of them and believe I only comment on a third of them. But I do spend a lot of timne here because I enjoy myself and learn more here than almost anyplace. And I am one who constantly analyses everything in my mind. So I was analysing why I read certain things. What attracts me to them?
I was just inviting you to do the same and to share your thoughts, if you want to. If there is an underlying agenda to this, it is that so many thread titles seem to have nothing whatsoever to do with the subject at hand. This might inspire some folks to carefully choose titles ion order to attract comments from those who know or care.

Piffin,
Thanks for the kind words.
Re: "or even to turn nonpolitical stuff into such." Sure, I've done that.* But I'm hardly alone.
To give credit where credit is due, I think the prize has to go to RonT's Christmas Day response in msg 25955.5 , turning a seasons greetings thread into political posturing.

Thanks Piffin for expanding on that. I misunderstood you. I am enjoying almost everything here on "breaktime" and doing my usual "all mistake approach". Am beginning to get the feel for some of the posters and that is beginning to make it more interesting.
Think I am experiencing some of that "prospero'd" thing you referred to. A friend of mine says this is an awkward site. Because there is so much traffic?
my note: I especially enjoy new approaches techniques, tools, inventions and being told I'm doing it totally wrong and why. I love that. Not an expert on anything. Not above stealing a trick from anybody. Thanks for the post.
