I am re-siding my own home this summer and am thinking of switching the exterior trim boards to the AZEK brand of expanded PVC trim(I am tired of painting!). I have asked around in my area and it isn’t widely used. Has anyone used this product and would they recommend it? Some one also recommended that I use a fiber cement trim board-similar to hardi-plank I think. Any comments?

I cut my first piece in a light rain when doing the trim on my house. It made white, slippery mud. Where eye protection because the dust is so fine when it is dry that it goes everywhere. Plus it sicks to anything due to static.
The boards are some 18' long and just under 3/4" thick in various widths. They are hard to move because they have little ridgitity.
You may wish to predrill holes prior to nailing. If you do nail it do it quick and don't stop before the nail is driven home as it will bend easily. Especially if it is ss. I used the ceramic coated deck screws, though you may wish to find a srew with a white head.
They say that you can paint the stuff to but I don't know why you would do that.
I'm sure that they have a web site and may even have decoritive trim that you can buy.

I've used quite a bit of it. It's kind of a pain to put up because it's so floppy - a bit of extra labor. Actually the biggest job i did was with another trim called Permatrim (cellular PVC) because that's what my yard was carrying at the the time. My opinion is that the Azek is a little nicer - more uniform. You or your client will save alot on future labor though, when it comes to painting. Also you have to pay attention to nailing because even though expansion due to humidity is not a significant factor, expansion due to temperature is. And the expansion occurs both lengthwise and widthwise. Follow the nailing schedule that Azek recommends to keep the pieces from squirming. Good Luck
I have put it up before but it was painted afterwards.
I wonder if it will yellow after prolonged UV exposer?

PS be careful if shooting it with nailgun it can split.I MAY DISAGREE WITH WHAT YOUR SAYING BUT I WILL DEFEND TO THE DEATH YOUR RIGHT TO SAY IT.

Thanks very much for the tips. I hadn't thought about the expansion occurring both ways.
