Hi all
I’ve read through all the posts I could find on finishing of WRC shingles but I’m still a bit confused.
The architect specified #1 R&R WRC dipped in Cabot bleach and site coated with semi-transparent stain. Says the bleach will help kill fungus/mildew and ensure even weathering and the semi transparent stain will retain the red color (if maintained).
Does this sound right…. sounds like competing goals. Would like to keep the red tone but extend the maintenance intervals longer than clear coat.
thx

Sounds at least halfway reasonable. There is no variety of wood that maintains a "natural" appearance when exposed to weather, so either you live with the weathered look or you somehow coat it. The bleach, in theory, would remove some of the chemicals that will tend to darken with weathering, so that the stain color remains consistent.
