I have heard a little about Xenon bulbs and I got the idea that they were like halogen but better. I need more information (or links) about these bulbs and the fixtures they are used in. And does anyone know what the Kelvin range (ranges) of these Xenon bulbs are.

Mike,
I've seen varying temp ratings for different bulbs...everything from 2900 to 5500 degrees.
In general, they have higher kelvin temps than comparable halogen bulbs, yet run cooler and give off less heat than halogen.
As the bulbs become more popular (which they are) they are being made for an increased number of fixtures...and an increased number of fixtures are being made for them.
Best bet...call a good lighting store in your area and see what they have to offer. My experience is that lighting pro's love to tell you what they know.
Regards, Mongo
*Mongo, Thanks for the reply. My problem is the nearest GOOD lighting stores are 150-300 miles away. Internet information is about as good as it gets around here (except for the occasional magazine article that is published at an appropriate time). I am always looking for links! Can Xenon bulbs (if the base configuration is correct) be used in fixtures designed for halogen bulbs? I understand that halogen fixtures tend to be designed for the high heat of these bulbs and, therefore, more expensive than the same fixture designed for a xenon bulb would be. I've also heard xenon bulbs can be set up with no fixture per se, like a person might do with florescents in a cove light... just the bulb holders, wire and ballast. Is true or no? Thanks again... *Mike,In our area the Zenon lamps are the current favorite for under cabinet lighting. I am currently installing about 40 ft. of cove lighting like you described. It's expensive, about $2,600 for the lights and two transformers. I ordered the lights from a lighting store in Denver. The manufacturer is Ardee Lighting http://www.ardeelighting.com/clickstrip.htmKeeping my fingers crossed that mine will be a successful installation.Gary T
*Gary, Thanks for the link. I figure I'll call Ardee up and get some education. Let me know how your project turns out, if you will. Thanks again... Mike Krall
