Yelloy Jackets – Murder By Duct Tape?
Ok, is this an incredibly great idea or a pathetically bad idea?
I’ve got a yellow jacket nest in between some woodwork and stonework in my house. The nest access is a 1″ hole that leads to a likely decent sized cavity. I’m thinking of spraying the heck out of it and covering the hole with tape to kill off the colony (trap the buggers in and keep the one’s out from ever getting back in.
Will I regret this poor man’s exterminator method?
I’m thinking that I’ll open it back up in a bunch of days and then permanently plug the hole
And yes, I’ve got full protective gear for the covert operation!
Thanks,
Seth

Generally you wouldn't even need to plug the hole. Spray it once real good, then come back 6 hours later (or the next day) and spray again. Any of the buggers that survive will abandon the nest.
I did spray the heck out of it last night. Now some are still coming and going. The hole is right above my tenant's exterior door and he's, let's just say, a total wussy. "Make them go away...make them go away!!"
Sounds like what you used wasn't sufficiently toxic. The right stuff will take care of the wasps AND your annoying tenant.
(It's normal for there to be some action around the nest for a few hours after spraying, when absent wasps return to the nest. They'll buzz around in a disoriented fashion and then leave. And you can increase your chances of getting all of them by spraying at night, when they're all in the nest.)
I like the foam sprays; I've never had a nest survive it.
