This guy posted this over in the "house chat" forum too. It absurd and should be treated as such.
It is a federal law that you cannot solicit over cell phones since that person will be paying for the call of your solicitation. I believe the federal do not call list passed without anyone voting against it. No politican will ever allow telemarketers this access. Above all, they want to remain in office and allowing telemarketers to call cells is a very quick way to lose an election.
Now I'm confused. I was at a function last night and my friend took a telemarketing call on his cell phone....7:30 in the evening. He said it's the 3rd he's had this week on his cell.
I advised him (rightly or wrongly) that I would highlight the call on his cell statement and refuse to pay for it. So how is this making a snope's list when I was right there listening to him take the call?
What he said was that phone numbers where going to be released (published) for telemarketers.A telemarketer does not need any such list if they already have your phone number. And there can be any number of ways that they got that number, basically by the guy giving it out. IE, using it as his business number, puttting it on any kind of form.
If he gave that number to his credit card comany as his contact number and they call to offer something to him, then that would be legal since they were given the number and they don't know it is a cell. Or a company could have gotten that number into thier list because he gave it out. In either case, he should tell them that the number is a cell number he pays for and for them not to call him. If they do it after that, then call you attorney general and give them the number, etc.
