Your thouhths on laterally running drain pipes w/i joist

3′ for a toilet… the I joist are BCI’s- 16″- 90 series….. drilling laterally through the floor joists, the hole schedule works out fine/and the install guide says I can have at it …… which means I will have to install short pipe segments and connect them in every joist space with couplings …. but is this a ok thing to do? seems like a pretty big bunch of holes as I have to travel thru 7 of them in a row (16 oc)….then there is the idea that there is the pipe couplings …the pipe inside never seems to butt perfectly together leaving a little seam 360deg inside the pipe every 15″ or so inches …seems a lot of chit paper can hang up/build up . what u say???

Two words -- garden hose.
Or, perhaps a little better, consider whether it's feasible to knock a hole through the outside wall to insert the pipe.
PVC can be made flexible with the right amount of heat. That's all I got. It's an option, but you will have to work out the methods to do it.
Two thoughts come to mind.
First - Are you near enough to the end of the hosue that you could cut through the band board and feed a long length in that way?
Second - Check on the max hole size you can cut. It may be that if you can cut a longer hole (horizontally) you could get pieces slid in that are about 32" long. Not so many splices that way.
Follow up on what BossHog recommended. That could save you some joints in the pipe. Also, cut your pipe using a chop saw. Don't use the handy sawzall or a hand saw. Keep the ends clean. Then de-burr the inside. I don't think you'll have any problems with the stuff inside going downhill.
