Builder Mike Guertin knew he needed to reinforce the FHB House ICF foundation walls with continuous rebar from bottom to top, but rebar protruding 8-plus ft. from the footings was not only a hassle to deal with when dropping ICF blocks into place, it was also a job-site safety hazard. So, instead of full length rebar extending from the footings, he left short pieces sticking up from the concrete and set up wide-open loops of zip-tie connectors in the lower course of ICF so he could drop rebar in from above the wall and still snug up the connection between the two pieces before the concrete pour.
