This lakeside cottage is rooted in the New England cottage tradition. The compact, comfortable residence is suitable for the owner’s immediate family and flexible enough to host large gatherings. The cottage was located to retain the natural features and impressive boulders to the south and west. The open living space with extensive views of the lake can expand through glazed doors to include the screen porch. High ceilings on the first floor permit tall windows and doors that flood the interior with light. The three bedrooms are located under the sloping roof with shed dormers to provide headroom and views. High levels of insulation allow the cottage to be quickly heated by the gas fireplace and reduce winter maintenance concerns. Hard wearing, low maintenance, locally sourced materials and salvaged items were used for the traditional detailing.
