When hurricane-fed floodwaters kept rising in our town last year, we watched the water creep closer to our doors. Water pouring into the house appeared inevitable. But there is always something that works better than doing nothing. In our case, it turned out to be urethane-foam insulation.
Before the water got to us, we ran beads of spray-foam insulation along the intersection between doors and jambs, and into the gaps between door bottoms and thresholds. The foam expands quickly and sticks to almost any surface. It will set underwater, and it was easy to remove.
I have no idea how much pressure the foam can withstand. But for the water it kept out of our house, it was worth doing.
