So your kitchen design is flawless–and then real life ensues and a hulking dish drain plants itself permanently on your countertop.
Enter “Sod,” a creative alternative whose polypropylene blades grip glasses and small dishware so they can drip into a neat, stainless-steel base.
Sod belongs to a crop of clever neo-luxe kitchen aids and accessories designed by Austin-based Finell Co. Others include “Join,” a set of heat-resistant silicone placemats that interlock to form a table runner, and “Grip,” a serving tray that secures tall drinks with a crisscross of colorful silicone bands. CEO Rebecca Finell entered the housewares and accessories market earlier this year, after selling her first company, baby-products maker Boon Inc. (There’s no mistaking the family resemblance between “Sod” and “Patch,” a baby-bottle holder she designed for Boon.) Sod measures 27 in. by 8 in. by 5 in. and is available with gray or green “grass.” It sells for $140 online and at select retailers.
