A stripped screw is frustrating, and having a screw extractor not work will really up the frustration levels. Irwin‘s Screw-Grip extractors are part of its Impact Performance Series of tools and promise to deliver high performance. The bits are made out of M2 high speed extra-hardened steel and feature what Irwin is calling DoubleLok Technology. This means that both ends of the dual ended bit securely lock in quick-change chucks.
One end of the bit is a drill bit that Irwin states is designed for minimal walking. The spiraled end used as the extractor has a serated design that is for increased torque.
The Screw-Grip is used by drilling the stripped screw to allow the extractor to dig in deeply and then flipping the bit to use as an extractor. The drill bit and extractor are both designed to work with the driving tool in reverse, so there is no need to remember to flip a switch for either action.
The extractors are 2 in. long and designed to remove screws ranging in size from 4 to 14.
Irwin also offers Impact Bolt-grip Extractors. You can see them here.
