Encountering the Batholith
Just how rocky is this site?
We know we bought a rocky site, it is a big part of the charm. We even know about the Sierra Nevada Batholith. It is a 70-mile-wide granitic pluton running north/south for 300 miles in California most famously exposed in Yosemite Valley. We climb granite and ski though chutes of granite around Donner Pass. We see the granite on our local river, the South Yuba, in beautiful smooth forms through steep pool drop rapids that offer world class kayaking in the spring and swimming in the summer. The hard granite is so beautiful and the benches on our site are reminders of the high country.
But it ain’t good for diggin’! The biggest, hardest chunk of rock is, of course, right in the middle of the basement. Now what do we do?
