Correct window flashing with vertical siding
Okay so I learned that what i have done is the wrong way. Looking for the correct way to install windows onto vertical shiplap siding. My wall detail is as follows (from inside out): 1/2″ sheathing, tyvek paper, 1 1/2″ rigid foam, 3/4″ horiz. strapping, 3/4″ shiplap, windows hung onto the siding, trim over the windows.
Following advice given to me by “an experienced” window installer, I hung my windows directly onto the siding. Taped all nailing flanges, and then installed trim over them (with caulk in the appropiate places).
I am now seeing the rain getting in between the shiplaps and running down behind all the flashing! 🙁
How can i remedy this? All of the windows have been installed like this. I know that i need to get something behind the shiplap and channel it to the front of the windows, but how with out taking all the windows off? Or do i need to go down that road?
Thanks

The good news is you have a rainscreen. The bad news is you have gaping holes (your windows) through it. You will have to remove the windows and flash correctly. The head flashing must begin from behind the tyvek wrb. And you will have to install some framing to support and attach the windows. Sorry. It's the only way to make it right. Hopefully some of the experienced contractors here will have some good tips on exactly how to best accomplish this task.
There is a lot of good information on this topic at greenbuildingadvisor.com

Describe the trim around the windows? How wide, how thick?
Did you tape the seams of the foam board?
