Since there seems to be more than a few Mac users around here, what design programs do you all recommend for Mac (preferably OSX compatible)? I have no CAD experience, so I’d be looking for something relatively basic, but I don’t mind a bit of a learning curve. I envision myself using this to help generate ideas for residential remodeling. I’m particularly interested in the way software can help with things like lighting design, that are a little harder to visualize in my head..
Thanks

I've become quite partial to VectorWorks, but it's not for casual use based on price or amount of features that require learning. It's not that it's hard to learn...there's just _so much_ of it.
I used to be a Mac user until I tried to find CAD software...all that was available at that time, about 2 years ago, was a clunky little program from Abracadata.com which isn't nearly sophisticated enough for even basic design work, cabinets, etc. Then I discovered Chief Architect and liked it so much I purchased a used PC so I could run the program. Its not cheap, about $1500 for Version 8.0, give or take a little, plus another $200 for the 4-CD tutorial which is invaluable. Check it out at chiefarchitect.com. I really wish there was a good design program for the Mac because I like the OSX better than the PC, and with the new Mac iSUV 17" portable I could really enjoy design work.

VectorWorks 10 has awesome power. You should at least check it out.
