Does anyone estimate using assemblies? Grouping items all together that normally go together. Such as the cost of a wall would be the sum of the cost of the wall framing plus the insulation plus the sheetrock? Does this spd up estimating for you?

All the time, Pete. The trick is to set minimums to cover your labor and setup costs and find the assemblies that work best in your projects. In the small remodeling projects that I do it makes more sense to price wall work by the item (opening, closet, doorway, section of wall) rather than by the foot.
*For cabinets, we group together material and labor (which includes installation). That's about it.Ed. Williams
*Hey Pete,In my price book we go by a lin. ft. example being basements. If you have 200 ft of partitions I think it comes out to approx 60.00 per ft to build the 2x4 wall, insulate it, trimit with simple pine and drywall it. Electrical, ceiling, heat and floor is seperate. It is fast and accurate provided you realize that you must have a minimum charge of so many feet. In other words you can't say that 10 ft of wall could be sold at 60.00 per ft. That would only be 600.00 and definately not enough. We use a minimum of 150 ft. which means we have a minimum charge of 9,000.00.
