I read the article on installing wood siding located here:-
http://www.taunton.com/finehomebuilding/PDF/Protected/021096080.pdf
and saw a system of making a scaffolding in the very first picture in this article. Can anyone help me identify these red spring-loaded jacks and tell me what they are called?
They seem to spring onto 4x4s and may have a foot pedal to raise the height.
Thx

Can't access the article that you are refencing, but it sounds like pump jacks. The old style that are made to travel on 2 2x4 fastened together.
Bingo! that's them all right...pump jacks! "Qual-Craft 2200" pump jacks.
Thank you!
I have at least 10 sitting in my barn, if you live near me you are wecome to use them.
They go on doubled 2x4s.
Be very careful about the quality of the 2x4s you use. I was on a pump jack scaffold 25 years ago where the new 2xs had a know inside one of them, and they cracked, throwing me off.
If you're going to be using them a lot, I strongly suggest getting the alumapole set-up.
Yup, alumapole is the way to go. Not really all that expensive and easy to resell. I got a steal on a used set and could probably sell them for more than I paid. My life is worth more than the difference between a couple 2x4s and the alumapole.
