I am redoing my mudroom and have expanded it to include a full bath. Becasue I dont want to move 2 200 amp panels obviously, the panels are and have been in the mudrrom.
My question is I know the NEC does not allow for panels in a bathroom. However if i were to enclose the panels in a 12 ” wall with a louvered door would this be ok?
Thanks

I don't believe that a panel can be in a closet either. Not an electrician though...

Your comments are all right on. Basically when this house was built they put two 200 am panels within two feet of a sink in a mudroom. I cant believe this thing passed inspection. The idea of having 200 amp service next to water makes me very nervous.
I have decided to shrink down the bath and put a wall so that the panels will be in their own hallway with nothing but space around them.
Thanks

irc indicates that it can not be located in bathrooms, toilet rooms and clothes closets also working space can not be designated for storage. Can you layout the room to give direct acces to the panel from outside the bathroom. Btw the enclosure would need to be at least 3' deep x 30" wide, could be wrong but thats the way i read it.
" Btw the enclosure would need to be at least 3' deep x 30" wide, could be wrong but thats the way i read it."Not exaclty. The work area needs to be that deep. You could have it in a closet that is only a few inches deep. Because it would be worked on with the door open. However, in this case if you do that then the panel would probably be considered in the bathroom. But if you could make it 36" deep then the panel is a separate room just with access through the bathroom. And I gather that this is not a small bathroom. Now a friend of mine has a house that was built in the 20's that has the panel right over the tub. That is certainly a problem. But in a larger "bathroom" with the panel having clear access and well away from any water the AHJ might have a differen opinion. Likewise the if the panel is a "closet" or not..

A-holes. Hey every group has to have one. And I have been elected to be the one. I should make that my tagline.
