i’ve reached the point where i can’t find threads i want to remember, and can’t find them using search
so now t try to save them on my pc
i use win 98 and ie5
i open the index in one window and the thread in anthor, no frames, none of the stuff at the top
it gets saved as an html file and a folder with all the gif etc.
an example of the html file only attached
what do you do?

I save the thread address in the 'favorites', in a 'breaktime' folder - - I like your way better, as it doesn't depend on despairo to continue in business and archiving old threads - - there are few from before the changeover I'd like to have...
How do you open one of these threads or the index in its own window?

i use win 98 and ie5 so can't be sure it works with others
IIRC i put the cursur over the folder list, right click it, and open in new window. I then go to top and click the unread msg option. so now i have the unread msgs list. (that's my personal choice, u can use any) I then add this to my favorites.
when im open i get the log in screen and it goes directly to the list of threads.
i open a thread the same way, right click and open in new window. when i go back to the list and open a newthread, i just left click it and it opens in the window i opened previously.
i don't mind going back and forth between windows because i get more on the screen._____________________________

I like that, too. I'll have to try it. I have a big binder full of threads I've printed out from here and over at JLC. They recently switched servers and lost all the stuff older than two years, I think. I wish I had thought about it more before the switch to Prospero.

couple things I keep forgetting to do.
change the name of teh file so I know what it is about, not msg 1234
also, you only save the numper of posts that you see.
if a thread has 25 posts (i have 20 posts displayed) I have to save twice, 1-20 and 20-25_____________________________

A more labor intensive way, but less dependant on some remote webserver:
If you have a word processing program, simply Copy-Paste into a document. In my case I can copy-paste into Word. Same works for the pics. Just bring up the picture and then right-click 'copy', and then paste it into the Word document.
A bit more work, but that way you can save it on your C: drive.

Forgot to mention, if you don't like seeing everything the text in tables when you paste it, try (in Word):
Copy-> Edit --> Paste Special --> unformatted text
This dumps the tables.

Some times I will just save the pics (easier to flip through them that way), but often when I go back to look at them, I'm sitting there scratching my head, cuz I don't have the description that went along with the pic. And worse yet, I don't know who the picture is FROM, so I won't be able to ask them a question.
Copy-paste the text and copy-paste the pics and you have the whole story.
