I am laying out the closed stringer and I am setting the nosing back two inches from
crown edge of the stringer. The leading edge of the first tread is 2″ from edge of
stringer compared to 1 1/4″ for the third tread. The layout is growing toward the
upper edge of the stringer. My stair gauges are not slipping, and the crown of
stringer is minimal. When I check my rise and run pencil lines every line is square.
What could be wrong ?

sounds like you are indexing something wrong. Mark a line the full length of the stringer 2" in, and index the square to it.
Does that makes sense?

Stokle, stay in one thread-posting another only confuses the issue and you might miss the real answer to your question.
