saw a brief description for using varnish mixed 50-50 w/ naptha, applying with paper towels;
questions;
how long between coats? is sanding neccessary? how about filling nail holes with tinted putty before a final coat-especially on an open grain wood like oak when the pores won’t be filled? howabout with a stain/varnish blend? I did an oak mantle for a client how doesn’t want to spend much time on finishing. By the way, how would a foam brush do for applying?
thanks

Gerald - there is an entire section on "Finishing" over at Knot's (Fine Woodworking board). You might get more response there. Very helpful and knowledgable folks there. (not that folks here aren't) - jb
