Over the course of remodeling FHB House Connecticut, the team has used a variety of STABILA levels. We’re out on the backyard deck to talk about the LAR 160 G, STABILA’s innovative laser leveling system and how it was used to help build out the deck.

The LAR 160 G is a long-range, high-precision rotary laser designed specifically for tough job sites. The 160 G came in handy when laying out this deck framing. On this project, the homeowners decided to do a wraparound grade-level deck. To have a beautiful finished deck, you need to start with a frame that’s plumb, level, and square.

This rotary laser can be used for both horizontal and vertical applications. It can also be used with a plumb -ine function or set at a right angle for 90° vertical situations. The rotary laser has two main modes, manual and tilt. In manual mode, the laser will project a line that matches the angle at which you set the tool.

In tilt mode, it has a 5° window of self-adjustment, so if you set the tool up a little bit out of level, it will compensate and give a nice straight line. If you’re beyond the 5° of self-leveling capability, it will alert you. And if you have the tool set up to self-level and you happen to bump into it while you’re working, it will give you an alert so that you don’t accidentally continue on without realizing that your tool has been knocked out of alignment.

Of course, durability is always important on the job site. The handles on the side of this rotary laser offer protection and are shock-absorbent against impact, and the entire set is waterproof and dustproof. With a working diameter of 600 meters or just under 2000 ft., this rugged high-precision laser has a multitude of uses both inside and outside on construction projects.

Excuse my ignorance but what's a plumb -ine function?
