Maintaining & Flushing a Tankless Water Heater
I’ve been a huge fan of tankless water heaters since installing my first one 7 years ago in a clients house. I’m told that they can last upwards of 25 years if propertly maintained, but I would venture to guess that very few units are ever routinly serviced. Our water here in Austin TX is pretty hard and a tankless water heater running hard water can build up scale on the boiler. If not properly maintained this scale can cause big problems for your unit.
When my company does our annual checkup on the houses we’ve built, one of the services we provide is a de-scaling flush of their tankless water heater. This process is relatively quick and only costs a few dollars in vinegar once you’ve bought a flush kit.
