Whenever we have to strip a roof — always a horrible task — we start by spreading a 4-mil polyethylene sheet over the ground near the
house. Then we back the pickup as close as possible to the house and build a plywood chute that leads from the truck bed to the edge of the roof. Once we’ve loaded the shingles in the truck, we drive off the plastic and roll it up, encapsulating any wayward roof debris. We then unroll the plastic at the dump to clean it, and save it for the next job. This method has allowed us to offer our customers the “Dixie Cup Guarantee”: the 3-oz. paper cup we give them at the end of the job cannot be filled.
