One of the biggest obstacles new technology faces, in terms to adoption, is cost. GE’s Bright Stik aims to counter that. The cost of a 3-pack of these bulbs is under $10. That’s still more than a standard incandescent bulb, but far less than only five years ago when a 60w LED bulb could cost over $40. GE states the Bright Stik is the first LED available at under $4 per bulb.
The Light Stik features a slender design that is compact, so it should work in most lamps, sockets, and fixtures. The 10w bulb produces 760 lumens and is said to be an ideal replacement for a 60w bulb. The bulbs are non-dimmable and available in soft white and daylight colors.
Based on three hours of operation per day, the rated life is nearly 14 years.

In Connecticut, LED bulbs have been subsidized for several years. I've replaced all the incandescents in my house with LEDs, and there's been a noticeable drop in our electrical usage. LEDs beat CFLs on several fronts. The color temperature is close to incandescent light, and they work just fine outside in cold temperatures. And, if you break one, you don't have to don a HazMat suit to clean it up.
