Norwegian Wood
This house was built in Norway in the 1950s, disassembled, then moved to the United States and rebuilt here on an island in Maine.
In 1965 the Beatles musically asked the question, “Isn’t it good, Norwegian Wood?” While I’m not exactly sure what Norwegian wood they were referring to in their famous song of that name, this Norwegian house certainly featured some beautiful wood, and plenty of it. Built in Norway in the 1950s, disassembled, then moved to the United States and rebuilt here on an island in Maine, this house is one of the most interesting and wonderful houses I’ve ever shot. The exterior features a sod roof, while the interior is filled with elaborate carved details and cozy nooks like this delightful bedroom with twin built-in beds. A pale blue wash covers the carved wood and built-in drawers under the beds, allowing some of the natural color to show through, while the floor and ceiling are left unpainted. Being in the house, I felt like I had been transported to a Carl Larsson painting (even though he was Swedish) and … “isn’t it good Norwegian wood?”
