Another framing question. At this morning’s bullsh*t session at the lumber yard over their free coffee, the discussion was wall corners, headers and 4×4 Posts.
I use lotsa 4×4 Posts. I use them at the corners (ends) of all walls, instead of the traditional 2 2×4’s and 1/2″ blocking; and use them for window and door headers as well.
The other guys never use them, and insist upon blocking and doubling up the 2×4’s, which I think is a bunch of extra cuts, sometimes uneven and bowed areas, and another piece of 1/2″ ply.
So do you use 4×4’s? And if so where and when?
