Hello.
I have an 80 year old grade two oak (not super nice, but it’s what we were dealt with the place) that was sanded (excessively) and finished with polyurethane prior to our purchase.
I suspect that there is only one coat of poly on this floor, since it’s hard to wipe clean, but it may be simply that this satin finish has a different surface energy from the gloss finish in our last home.
Before replacing the removed quarter-round I want to add a layer of clear finish to this floor. Probably satin or semigloss to avoid showing scratches, unless you recommend otherwise.
I have two primary questions:
1. How do I need to prepare this floor?
2. Is Glitsa the best finish for this application?
The floor is a yellow color, but I believe that the poly is clear, not stain.
3. Any suggestions on sources of wood for repairs would also be appreciated. I’m in Chicago.
Thank you for your time.
Best regards,
Keith

Any floor refinish can help you out or you can do it yourself. \
First you need to determine if it is a water or oil based finish. Then you need a buffer with a sanding screen. Screen floor till old finish powders, and you have a smooth surface. Clean up well, and mop on finish coats.
Do you homework and you should not have a hard time.
Our floor man charges 50 cent a foot for screen and two coats
