I am wanting to find a good book, video, or information on how to build the cornice return. I am waiting on delivery of the 10:12 roof trusses and would like to know the correct sequence of events to build the roof structure and trim it out. thank you.

Tom; I attached a picture of my stairshop. It is not a very close look at the box returns. If that is what you have in mind, I could elaboate further on how I built them. They really add a lot to the looks of a building.
*Tom, I've never seen any book with details on building returns. Just had to learn the ol' fashioned way. There are several "styles" and they all obviously are built differently. What type of siding, soffit, and facia materials you are using makes a difference in how they are built also. Give us more details pertaining to your own project and we may be able to detail for you some different methods.
*...i like my cornice returns to extend past the gable ends, so if the gable rake ends are extended say 8", then the cornice and eaves will be extended say 12"..this way the gable land on the eaves and cornice returns..here's an example done with fiber cement clapboard and GP Primetrim..
*here's the same detail on the large gable end...
