I’m looking into composting toilet for a couple with a holding tank for grey water. So far I’ve done a search of old breadtimes on the issue, I’ve gotten flyers form and biolet incinolet, which seems to use alot of power to burn the waste. I’ve gotten an estimate from clivus maltrum for $12,000 for the toilet, and $5,000 for one from Phoenix (that’s the brand name). Has anyone had any experence with these…. particularly, the remote models… composter in the basement, directly below the one toilet. Thanks.

Few people understand it. Nobody agrees what it is, how to learn about it, or who's responsible for it. It has never been more important

We had a Sunmar years ago - the centrex with remote, low flush etc. There was far too much liquid in the system for any composting to happen. The effluent drain would clog and the thing would overflow - I spent way too much time with the shopvac.
We went with a standard septic.
I have seen a Clivus Multrum installation, and I think it is a workable solution, but only when a standard septic system is impossible. I would go with a remote system only in a vacation home that sees very little use.
Thanks, it seems to be an expensive idea (materials from 5000 to 12,000 dollars and a bit of a gamble..... Anyway.... the Clivus is the higher price above.) thanks.
My brother-in-law installed a Incinolet at his cabin because septic was not possible. I guess it works, but the smell out of the vent is apparently something else. I've not had the pleasure of smelling it, but it supposedly makes for an unpleasant time sitting outside when the burner is going. It is a trade off for sitting on a 5 gallon bucket in the woods though.
The out house is way under rated!
Ive never had a problem with mine .

I've never used an outhouse in the winter - its below zero right now, and I can see one from my window, but when given the option, I'm staying in.
We had one at basecamp - with enough ventilation and some wood ash, it never really stunk.
