I have to attach a deck ledger to my block frost wall…the wall sits on footers, blocks (not poured), and the wall is then backfilled. A slab sits on top of the fill inside…so there’s no access to the inside of the block.
The ledger will be against masonary…and there will be about 2′ of masonary above the deck before wood begins (save for at the door).
So my question is…How does one best attach the ledger to the house? Do expansion bolts work well in blocks?? Do the bolts penetrate the entire block, ie 8″ ?
I most likely will support the ledger on freestanding posts…but I’d like to know how I would best attach the ledger to the foundation if I chose to not use posts?
Thanks.

Short and sweet... epoxy 9" studs 6" deep, double nut with fender washers.

Sam...
How do I epoxy the bolts into the block?? I assume I hit the webbing and not the void? The webbing can take the bolt OK? Or am I missing something?
Sorry for the stupid question...
Thanks!
Oooops!
My bad. I ####-u-me-d that the voids were filled.
And you can't drill thru and use a fish plate on the other side? Correct?
I dunno, Knock out the top face of the block in each appropriate vertical run and hand fill and use j-bolts and short pieces of rebar??? This will definately work... in fact a lot of work hehehe.
There is a method for doing this and it takes about 30mins per hole if you hand mix.

Actually I did fill quite a few of the blocks...about every 4 feet...were the anchors are for the sill plates. I suppose I could just find those, eh?
Yes, I can NOT get to the inside of the block...
Great. You're 1/2 done. now fill the 2' OC's in between and yer set.

You can still use epoxy anchors. Simpson makes a wire screen tube exactly for this purpose. You drill the hole, load up the screen, put it in the wall and insert the bolt.
" Whereevr fine simpson wire screen tubes are sold" where do you get this stuff?Where there's A wheel there's a way, got any wheels?
ramset also make a product for this application. I'd hazard a guess any of the major construction epoxy manufacturers have a similar setup.

Any good lumber yard or building supply that carries Simpson products should have it or should be able to get it to you.
