I was wondering if any of you had experience with the 2003 IFC. I do a lot of work for a state funded Group Home management company here in Michigan and was wondering, I’ve got the 2003 Michigan Residential code book but It didn’t have a lot of information about fire codes and Group home specific codes so I talked to my contact at the management company and he told me that a lot of the codes they adhere to are from the Fire Codes.
What I need to learn more about are the specific codes related to door fire ratings, locations of emergency lights, fire alarms and pull stations, and any other codes pertaining to the Group homes, I was hoping someone out there could point me to a good book or resources to help me learn more about them. Any responses would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks

Check out the National Fire Protection Association website. They may have what you need. It would be appropriate to talk to the building inspector(s) where you are working and ask them what codes they inspect to.
I am currently working on a 6 person adult foster care facility in Michigan, and the state has a downloadable manual with the requirements for facilities in MI, including exit doors, wall covering requirements, etc. The requirements vary based on number of occupants. I don't have the manual with me (it's at the home I am converting), but I know we got it off the State of Michigan website (http://www.michigan.gov). I can post the exact reference it you have trouble finding it, but it won't be until late next week.

I did some poking around on the Michigan.gov website and found a few publications and general rules but I didn't have any luck with the manual you referenced. If you can find out where you got it and let me know I would appreciate it!

This looks like the site. http://www.state.mi.us/orr/emi/admincode.asp?admincode=Department&Dpt=FI
Look down the list under Division of Adult Foster Care Licensing and you will find publications listed with titles relating to fire safety for various sizes of homes, group home standards, etc.
