Pouring a new slab and the forms are running below the rest of the yard, (almost 1 1/2 inches). How will I stop the rain from flooding the porch. French drain around the slab; how do you do that? Grading the yard doesnt seem like a good idea because there is alot of it and the whole thing is higher than the slab. I wanted to slope the slab away from the house but that would make it worse. Right now there is a low spot inthe yard right next to the house that I have it sloping toward. It is a worn spot from rain falling off the roof and it channels down the length of the house.
thanks for any help

Just tie the camel up out there.
Excellence is its own reward!
Sounds like the whole house should have been placed a little higher in elevation if a slab (at the same height as the hosue) is lower than all the terrain.
A French drain? Dig around the perimeter of the area wiht a trencher or narrow backhoe bucket. Line with geotech fabric. Fill with drain rock and a drain pipe. Continue the trench with a slightly decreasing elevation to daylight. Make sure you want a lot of water to pour out there during each rain.
For a small area in a dry climate, you could consider a sump pump in a basin to drain the far end (lowest edge) of the new slab. Always have some hesitation to install an active system (versus a passive one like a french drain) but it would require a lot less earthwork. Then run the duscharge hose to a low spot or where it will drain to storm drain. If you are on city sewer, they do NOT want you to send them rainwater or groundwater.
I would just raise the forms 4".
I would put in the drain any how for the rest of the house .
???? then water would run into the home. I guess I could trench out an area in the lvrm to channel water out the front door,..like the roman aquaducts. During the rainy season we would have a constant source of running water. I can see it,...dishes could be rinsed. The dogs would always have a fesh drink....let alone the ambience of the out door enviroment. The tranquil sound of a bubbling brook right inside your own home. Add a couple of songbirds and a poster of a herd of deer,....You may be on to somthing here.
All sarcasm aside,..I think you misunderstood the original post. The patio slab will be connected to the house slab, only 1.5 inches lower. 4 inches would put me too high.
