How to join wood columns to stone stoop?
I have a flagstone front stoop that I want to build a veranda over this year. This veranda will be made of wood and there will be two columns supporting the roof down to the stoop.
Can anyone suggest, or direct me to a good resource, for the detailing of the wood/flagstone joint? I’m not sure how to mate the two for stability and minimization of water damage. I’m assuming I’ll somehow bolt the column/pedestal to the stoop.
Thanks!

I suggest that you decide what brand of column yopu willbe using first. Most manufacturers instructions are quite detailed about various settings such as wood, stone, and concrete, and many of them offer the appropriate hardware to be ordered with the coloumn. It will vary a great deal whether youare using a faux stone column, a wood column, or a composite material.
it will probably involve drilling and using a wedge bolt or epoxy set to pin the base in place, and a way of seatiung the column to the base. With some, it involves a separate mounting base that is fastenbed down. The trim is only a composite or fibreglas shroud that slips down over the hardware

Thanks Piffen. There's a chance I'll build the columns myself (assuming rectangular, not round), but you've given me good ideas.
Given that, I would sugesst that you think about one of Simpson hardware's post bases made for 4x4 or 6x6 PT posts. Use it for the center structural post and then wrap the built up trim onto it in place. Backprime your materials, and design it to leave a space at top and bottom for ventilation, unless you like sitting out on the porch on a quiet summer evening listening to the sounds of your handiwork rotting away before your eyes.
