How do I layout a Finish Stringer? I can lay out a Cut Stringer and know that the rise to run will be the same. I am wondering about the height in front of the bottom riser and tread and how far out from the bottom riser to come out.
Thanks

when i was working on stairs, i cut the finish skirt board to the same rise and run as the 2 X 12 stringer that was cut out "in the field". the unit run was always 10" b/c the finished treads were always 11 1/4" deep/wide.
i just always laid out the finished stringer/skirtboard "long at the top". i'm not really an install guy, but i guess the skirtboard butted into the newel post. the very bottom riser, which is mitered like the rest of the riser cuts on the finised skirtboard, needs to stick out past the rough stringers whatever the thickness of your finished risers is.
did that answer your question? maybe i did not quite understand what you're asking.
