Happy holidays to all–
Since it’s Christmas week, I’m hoping I can get some guidance in handling this problem myself…
The previous owners of our house installed a liner liner over the bathtub in our only bathroom. Everything was fine, until I decided to replace the grossly mildewed caulk between the liner and the tiles on the wall.
I can’t get the caulk to hold–on the long side of the tub, it splits and pulls off the tile.
And now, the real problem–water has gotten behind/below the liner and into the original bathtub. Taking a shower is getting to be like walking across a waterbed.
How can I drain the water from the “real” bathtub? Do I have to take the liner off? (I may not mind this, just not sure how to do it….). Is it safe to simply try unscrewing the drain, which seems to be the tightest seal between the liner and the tub?
Thanks for any help you can provide–
Melissa

Methinks you'd waste less time and energy by just biting the bullet and rip it all out and start anew. Sorrry about that.
BTW, when recaulking a tub,, fill it with water first, that preloads the sag into the joint space and will take hold deeper.

ohhhhhhh.....filling the bathtub first seems so obvious, now that you mention it.
Any suggestions about where/how one starts ripping the thing out?
Thanks,
Melissa
