Hello Ladies & Gentleman-
I’m working on the design of a new tool of sorts for the building trades. To be only slightly less vague, kitchen installers would be most interested. It’s some months away from its public debut and I’m in the process of pinning down a few necessary specs. One in particular is the dimensions for the custom router bit. What I could really use from the gang here at BT is a survey of a few basic measurements off of your laminate trimmers in order to make sure it works with most every common make & model in general use.
I would really appreciate* the following dimensions on a variety of different manufacturers’ units: Max depth of collet/chuck (from bottom of seat to face of collet collar, in other words, how far will a long bit shank go in?); Max & Min distances from face of collet collar to bottom of the standard base (in other words, how far from the chuck to the base at max & min height adjustments); also, although this is indirectly covered in the previous measurement, the Max adjustment travel of the base might be useful, too. Please be reasonably accurate.
For example, my Bosch 1608/1609 has a Max chuck depth of 1.55″, Max distance of chuck to base is 0.875″, Min is 0.360, for a maximum adjustment travel of slightly over 1/2″. I’m assuming this unit is fairly typical, but would like to have measurements from others to make sure it doesn’t have a much shallower/deeper chuck or less/more base travel than most, etc., that would necessitate changing my design parameters.
*By ‘appreciate’, I mean the first person to respond with the aforementioned data for any/each particular make & model will get one of my new tools FREE when they go into production later this year (anticipated retail price of about $40). Just a couple rules, requests, suggestions: Please keep it to lam trimmers that are of more or less current mfr (no obsolete dinosaurs) and major mfrs commonly available in the US (no obscure foreign makes). I’m okay with giving away a dozen or so units to cover the PCs, Milwaukees, Makitas, DeWalts, etc, but have to draw the line somewhere. Fair enough?
THANKS IN ADVANCE!

Mitch - I have a PC Model 7301 Power Unit coupled with a Model 7309 Laminate Trimmer Base.
Depth of collet interior from nut face to bottom of blind hole in shaft - 1.242"
Minimum; collet nut bottom to bottom (face) of base - 0.272"
Maximum; collet nut bottom to bottom (face) of base - 1.331"
Vertical adjustment of base - 1.059"

Thanks! and Wow! your PC has much different specs than my Bosch. Chuck is about 20% shallower, but base travel- min, max & overall- is much greater. That info will definitely be of use. Send me your mailing address to [email protected] and I will file it under "Freebies for folks who helped me" or some such. Your assistance (and patience) will be richly rewarded. Thanks again!

Nah. I'll e-mail you a picture of it. No wait, I'll make sure and clean the pic first - no spurious links, I promise.
