In a matter of weeks I hope to start the stuccoing of a 6″ frieze below the soffit line of my house. I have had only a Portland Cement Association publication as a guide and have not had much luck at my local builder’s supply yards as the majority of stuccoing in my area is done with EIFS.I will be using building paper over furred 3/4″ Douglas Fir plywood with expanded metal lath. From my reading, I have decided to go with a 3/8″ brown coat, a 3/8″ scratch coat and a 1/8″ finish coat.
I am specifically interested in mixing ratios, addition of bonding agents and addition of colour pigment as well as types of floats to use. My home is located in Southern Ontario, so we do have the odd severe winter and hot summer. My home is just under 100 years old and the existing facade is stone struck stucco, which I hope to eventually put a finish coat on. If you made it through my long winded question and you have any tips or pointers, they’d be greatly appreciated.
