I’m freshening up our 70’s kitchen and need to replace the old Houck 500 series undermount drawer slides. I can get the same slides, but would love to use a more modern slide. The old face frame cabinets support the ends of the stationary rails, but have no side structures to fasten to. The inset drawer fronts are fairly tightly fitted with sides flush the the fronts. Clearance to the underside of the drawer is a scant 7/8″. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

There is some softclose etc hardware available with rear brackets. Not saying you’ll find anything that fits your dimensions, but look at Hafele or Blum or Grass.
Other possibility is to build new boxes for your fronts.
Thanks Calvin.
As those slides were so common for so many years, I was hoping that someone might have found a good replacement. Sadly, the online catalogs are such that you've got to really dig for any real dimensional information. The drawer boxes are fully adequate so I'd rather not get into a rebuild there. It looks like I may just get replacements for those slides and let go of hopes for full extension or soft close. Such is working with an old house.
Blum Tandum Slides
Buy one set and see if you like. They're better than anything available in the 70's.
