I want a simple system for a small office to deter vandals.
– a motion detector and an alarm that runs for say 20 min then shuts off. I Do not want it monitored. I have not been able to find it on the net tho i think its there. I want off the shelf stuff that can be replaced not having to call att or brinks and pay a big service call.
any ideas where I can start looking??

Radio Shack used to, at least, sell exactly what you're describing...I had two of them and they worked fine.

I went to radio shack and they said no.
i have a wireless system in my office... motion & door sensors with a very loud siren... it also has a dialer so i have it call my cell phone it doesn't say anything but it shows up on my caller ID
mine was made by "ALERT systems" think the whole thing was less than $50 new off ebay... i even have some motions in the warehouse that are hooked up to it... lets me sleep a little better anyway... there are some apartments that overlook my building... i met a guy who lives on the second floor with a full view of my building... bought hm a case of beer in exchange for his phone number just in case it goes off i can call and ask him to look out his window ... never used this option but nice to know i can

Check out Smarthome.com. It has lots of automation, X10, and monitoring / alarm stuff.
I once walked into a superintendents trailer, like I had a thousand times before, and the alarm went off. It was an ear piercing sound and I couldn't cover my ears good enough and I had to run out of there in pain.
I just shut the door and left. There wouldn't be any way for me to stay in there and steal anything.

More panel than you had in mind, but everything you asked for. Search security alarm panel and you'll find many. Ademco's been around forever.

There used to be a thing called a "buzz bulb" or something like that. It was a bulb shaped siren that you could just screw into one socket of a motion detected light fixture. That would work.
I want an seperate alarm I can put above the ceiling tiles (its a small office)
In addition to smarthome.com, check out http://www.smarhomeusa.com
will do
the smarthome seemed most about automation.
I will try the other site
