Hey Folks,
I took some of your advice and purchase the SOSS hinges for my hidden door project. They arrived today and I have to tell you, they are indeed one fine example of engineering. I am very impressed.
If they hold up as well as they look and work, I’ll be one happy guy!
Thanks for the advice those who gave it.
Mike

mike ; done alot of soss hinges in the last 4 years. they are wonderful , but just a little whisper of B.T.D.T . be very precise in the installation, also the door and jamb especially the mortise for the hinge it self. made a nice jig out of M.D.O. good luck
*Mike,If you got the 218's you will want to go with a thicker jamb on the hinge side.We installed a hidden door yesterday for a customer. It was in the entry hall under the stairs. She wanted it for storage. We rabbited the edge of the jamb to accept the 5/8" rock, but left about a 1/4" of the jamb showing for the tape and bed guy to work to.We glued the rock inside the rabbit and pinned it till the glue cures. It should hold the jamb tight and hopefully not crack over time.Good luck with yours.Ed.
*Kip and Ed, Thanks for the tips. I got the 220s. They're HUGE! Looks like they are basically non-adjustable once you bore the mortise so I guess I better be precise huh?!Mike
