what causes my air condidioner to Fre…

My air conditioner stoped supplying air to the ducts. So i looked at the A-Coil in the furnace and it was solid Ice.

What causes the a-coil to have a coating of ice on it?? this it the second time in two years it has done this. usually they just had to put more “gas” in it.

It is a Carrier unit installed in 1996. we are in SE michigan
