What is wrong with my laser level

I have a RoboToolz model 7610-5  (5 beam laser level) that has only been used a few times and never abused.  Most of the time the laser will not come on when I turn on the switch.  Occasionally I will see a quick blink and that is it.  The batteries are fresh.  I love the unit when it works.  Does anyone else have the same problem and a solution?

    stan,  this unit is self-leveling.  My pls self leveling laser needs to be within a certain degree of level or it won't work.  The self leveling feature can't make up a whole lotta off kilter.  Could this be the problem?

    You were right about the unit having to be near level to operate.  I brought my unit home and set it up on a level surface and the laser came on and self leveled in seconds.
