Looking to buy a PDA.
Does anybody who uses one care to share the plusses or minuses of any brand they’ve had good or bad experiences with?

Get one with backlighting. I have a cheap Palm Zire 21 that is great except for the lack of backlighting.

Palm Zire 72 is a nice unit. Little spendy @ $300, but its got all the bells & whistles.
I have 3 of the old style ,Palm III, & M-100. We use them on a daily basis, along with a program called "Punch List". Sure saves on the paper work.
Can find them all day long,on the cheap on E-bay!
Does that program come with the unit or do you have to buy software separately?
Any experience with other brands or newer units?"But I say to you who hear, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.... and just as you want people to treat you, treat them in the same way."
Bought the software in 1998, been using it since. They still have a web site, http://www.punchlist.com great for what we do. Palm is the only brand I have used, but heard good things about HP pocket PC.
Thanks, Mike."But I say to you who hear, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.... and just as you want people to treat you, treat them in the same way."
all i have is bad things to say about the windows ones. They are expensive toys but i find that putting info in is such a long process, and the mbatteries die so quickly.. that it's uselessThe palm ones make more sense but i still think paper is better______________________________________________
--> measure once / scribble several lines / spend some time figuring out wich scribble / cut the wrong line / get mad
There's some info here: http://forums.taunton.com/n/mb/message.asp?webtag=tp-breaktime&msg=57276.1
I just bought the Zire 72s (Special edition). I had contemplated buying from eBay, but after reading the reviews on Amazon, I went to Staples and bought the PDA as well as the 2 year extended warranty. Staples does offer a 512mb rebate card that you send for, a $70 deal, with this PDA. The 2 year warranty includes one screen replacement (if damage is not caused by 'abuse')
I just started to use it, and loading info is fairly easy. I can't say whether or not it's better than anything else, as it is my first one.
Good luck.
Edit, just looked at the Bosch Punchlist site. $300 for the software. That's the same cost as the PDA itself. Hope it's worth it...

I've had an (older Palm) and am on my second Ipaq. Personally I've liked the Ipaqs more, and they seem to have more software choices (Windows based). I added a Navman GPS to mine (I have undoubtedly the world's worst sense of direction) and although mine is an old "obsolete" boat anchor it works great and I use it all day long.
