Disclaimer: DO NOT watch this video if you have a fear of bats.
This video clip (linked here with permission), taken by the crew of Istueta Roofing in Florida, went viral about a year ago but just recently ended up in my inbox. Don’t watch this video if you are chiroptophobic. But if you’re like me and have done your share of remodelling and find yourself thinking “I’ve seen it all” watch the clip and let me know if it changes anything.
Batman for Hire
In talking with Mr. Istueta I learned that they knew ahead of time that there was a bat problem with the tile roof and they were hired to addresss it. What they didn’t know was the extent of the problem. As I understand it, with all the media attention and the viral video response a certain member of the Istueta Roofing crew has earned the nickname “Batman” for his involvement with this project. So if you need expert roofing service in South Florida just give them a call. You never know when you might need to hire Batman…
I learned two more things seeing this video. First; I may not have a fear of bats but this tear-off would have unnerved me considerably. Second; the word for a fear of bats is “chiroptophobia”. Oh, yeah, and NOW I’ve seen it all 🙂
Special thanks to Ariel Istueta for his willingness to share this unusual event with Caution: Hard Hat Area.

Heck, that makes me want that sort of roofing on MY house!
Mosquitoes here are truly a plague, and I'd welcome anything that eats them.
renosteinke,
That could be a tough choice: mosquitoes or guano? Come to think of it, maybe guano wouldn't be so bad at that :-)
A side note: bats don't like sleeping with mothballs - so sayeth mom. So we hung four bags in a corner over the back entry, beneath the second story eaves, in hopes they'd vacate their sleeping spot. Ten days later and the prolific poopers are gone. No more mounds of guano to cleanup every day.
