The backside of this house had some unfinished work and it was looking like I needed to come back 6 to 8 months later to take more photos of this angle. Inspired by a photograph I saw over 10 years ago by fellow blog contributor, Brian Vanden Brink, I decided to take a hike into a nearby field during a lunch break while shooting the interior. The photo Brian took was of a house far away in a winter landsape glowing at night. It said, “home” to me. I have always searched for an opportunity to take a shot that conveyed the same message and exhibited similar beauty. My challenge though here was to take the dusk shots of the front of the house, hike over a stream and through a field with my equipment, and have enough time to take the photograph before it became too dark. I made it in time, and set up my camera quickly with the help of my iPhone flashlight. The autumn chill and hooting of owls made for a peaceful, rewarding and beautiful way to wrap up the day, and the shoot. It’s a night I will remember vividly and fondly with a photo that says, “home”.
