A dark, compartmentalized house was transformed into a light-filled, open plan to better accommodate a modern lifestyle. Small, oddly-placed windows were replaced by much larger windows which maximize the flow of natural light and frame the mountain views. The kitchen is considered the hub for this growing, busy family. The “floating” Douglas fir island is a great place for doing homework and socializing with guests while cooking – suitable for gatherings big and small. Playful red tiles add punches of color for another layer of interest, fun highlights, and a link to the other spaces in the house. This kitchen is timeless.

This is so awesome. Maybe I will change one of my rooms to light one? Great article!
Awesome, light plays such an important part when it comes to arranging your living space. I recently just changed the curtains from dark to lighter ones and it made such a huge impact on an interior!
