This house sits on the footprint of an old camp perched on a rock face over the shores of Lake Champlain. The original house was designed and built in 1998. The house sold in 2012 and the new owners asked the original architect to design an addition to include a garage, mudroom, TV room and guest bedrooms. The site presented a few challenges, not the least of which was the rock wall less than 30′ behind the house – a very tight space to build a new two car garage and mudroom. Another challenge was getting visitors to the middle of the house where the front door and entry to the house was located. The new design allowed for an entrance roof that reached beyond both the existing house and addition pulling visitors into the mudroom along a curved, wooden wall. This entry opens into the main living area and the panoramic views of Lake Champlain and the Adirondack Mountains. The new roof lines, siding materials and colors were designed to match the existing house.
