One of the most fun parts of my job is when I have the opportunity to visit the houses that we publish and occasionally photograph them myself. I was recently in Austin, Eugene, and Portland, photographing two kitchens and a bath for the next Kitchens & Baths issue, which doesn’t hit newsstands until the fall. Particularly because I’m not a professional photographer like the others here on Through the Lens, I take a lot of photos on these shoots. I probably take 12 exposures of every shot I frame, playing with the lighting and styling in each shot. When I get back to the office and look through my work, the most instructive photos for the magazine are easy to identify. But, often my favorite shots never see the light of day (again anyway). Here’s one of those favorites from the Austin kitchen and a preview of the Fall ’16 K&B issue. But I’m not giving the story away.
The firm responsible for the work is here: ClaytonandLittle.com. Thanks to Carolina Cantu, a C&L architect, for making the project, the photo shoot, and the article happen.

It seems so perfect. Great symetry and design! I love it.
The shot is quite beautiful. I love the wood in this kitchen, it gives warmth to the overall appearance.
