Every summer we take a family trip to the coast of Maine to visit friends, swim in the cold salt water, and eat as much seafood as we can. Two summers ago I traveled to Maine a couple of extra times to photograph some homes for a book about small houses. I just rode my bike by the cottage featured above last weekend on a similar warm summer day on Peaks Island. It’s owned by the architect and he graciously offered to have me stay at the cottage overnight to do the shoot. We had beautiful light for the nights shots and then were fogged in the next morning. I was excited that we could also incorporate his wife’s sculptures into the shots on both sides of the house. The windows are extruded aluminum-clad. The siding is eastern white-cedar wall shingles and galvanized corrugated steel. Summer days are fleeting and shoots like this one are very fondly embedded in my memory.
